Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Tipped to Support Qi2 Wireless Charging Standard

3 Min Read

Samsung is gearing up for a major leap in wireless charging with its upcoming foldable devices. Following the recent confirmation that the Galaxy S25 series supports Qi2 Ready, new information suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 may also embrace the Qi2 wireless charging standard. This advancement would mark a significant upgrade in convenience and compatibility for users relying on wireless charging accessories.

The Qi2 standard is a next-generation wireless charging protocol that improves alignment, efficiency, and charging speeds. Samsung’s support for this protocol in its flagship devices underlines the company’s commitment to staying ahead in the wireless charging space. Users can already access Qi2 functionality with the help of magnet-equipped cases, and this could extend to upcoming foldable phones.

According to data published by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), a Samsung device with the model number SM-A846U has been certified under the Qi2.1 (Qi2 Ready) standard. Interestingly, this model number does not align with any currently released Samsung smartphones, sparking speculation in the tech community. The unusual format — particularly the “A” following the “SM-” prefix — suggests that this device could belong to the Galaxy Z Flip family.

Past references list the Galaxy Z Flip 5 as SM-A822D in the same certification registry, despite its actual retail model number being SM-F731. If the pattern holds, SM-A846U could very well represent the Galaxy Z Flip 7, further suggesting that the upcoming foldable will indeed support Qi2 wireless charging.

This certification would not likely apply to the rumored Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which is expected to be a more affordable variant. Given the price-sensitive nature of FE models, Qi2 support may be omitted in favor of cost-cutting measures.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will feature built-in magnets to assist in the secure attachment of Qi2-compatible accessories — a key part of the standard’s efficiency and alignment promise. However, more details are anticipated to surface as the July Unpacked event approaches.

If confirmed, Qi2 support on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will elevate the foldable’s usability, bringing it in line with modern wireless charging accessories and further blurring the line between innovation and practicality in Samsung’s foldable lineup.
