OpenAI has officially launched OpenAI Academy India in collaboration with IndiaAI, marking its first AI education initiative outside the United States. This strategic partnership aims to democratize access to AI training and upskill India’s vast community of students, developers, civil servants, educators, and entrepreneurs.

Aligned with the IndiaAI Mission’s ‘FutureSkills’ goal, the academy is designed to offer foundational and advanced AI training to individuals across all sectors. Whether learners are part of startups, digital platforms, nonprofits, or government institutions, OpenAI Academy India is built to support inclusive and large-scale AI adoption.

The learning model includes both online and offline formats, ensuring accessibility for learners from all regions. Initially, the courses will be offered in English and Hindi, with four additional regional languages expected soon. Educational content will be hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform—India’s central digital hub for public sector skill development.

Some of the program’s key offerings include:

  • Webinars and expert-led workshops in six major Indian cities
  • Courses in multiple languages
  • A $100,000 API credit fund for up to 50 IndiaAI-approved startups or fellows
  • A training initiative for 1 million teachers on how to use generative AI tools effectively

Workshops and course content are structured by OpenAI experts and local partners, targeting broad participation and meaningful learning outcomes.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the launch as a major step toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of widespread access to cutting-edge technology. He emphasized that the program would empower India’s tech ecosystem—developers, researchers, and innovators—to create more scalable and efficient solutions.

OpenAI’s Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon noted India’s rapid advancement in AI, stating that the collaboration aims to equip people with the confidence and tools needed to make impactful use of AI in everyday life and professional innovation.
