IT Home reported on May 31 that Apple has published its 2024 App Store Transparency Report, revealing the most stringent app review process in the company’s history. According to the report, Apple reviewed approximately 7.7 million app submissions this year, rejecting about 1.93 million apps, which accounts for a significant 25% rejection rate—a record high focused on combating fraud, spam, and low-quality software.

The main reasons behind these rejections included poor app performance, design issues, and violations of Apple’s business rules. Apple also removed 82,509 apps from the store, with tool apps being the most frequently removed category (over 16,000), followed by games.
Fraud prevention emerged as a critical priority in 2024. The report disclosed that Apple eliminated 38,315 fraudulent apps and terminated 146,747 developer accounts, with nearly all—146,583 accounts—linked to fraudulent activity. Developers appealing app removals faced an extremely low success rate of only 1.6%, with just 421 apps reinstated out of 26,224 appeals.
Apple’s crackdown extended beyond apps to users, closing 129 million user accounts and blocking an estimated $2.02 billion in potentially fraudulent transactions.
Despite these stringent controls, the App Store continues to see robust activity, averaging 813 million weekly visitors and 839 million downloads. However, re-downloads surpass new installs, reaching nearly 1.9 billion per week. Background app updates also remain extensive, with over 66 billion updates performed weekly.
Apple’s record-breaking review rigor reflects its ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, high-quality ecosystem for developers and users alike.
