According to a new report by Android Authority, Apple is preparing to introduce a groundbreaking feature in iOS 19 that will simplify eSIM transfers from iPhone to Android. Code discovered in a beta version of iOS reveals that the feature will be named “Transfer to Android” and will be accessible via the iPhone’s Settings app.

The process appears to involve the generation of a QR code, which can be scanned by an Android device to automatically import the eSIM configuration. This mimics the current process Apple uses for activating eSIMs through carriers but removes the need for manual intervention and personalized codes.

Currently, all iPhones sold in the United States are eSIM-only, lacking a physical SIM card slot. This makes switching devices, particularly across ecosystems, more complex. Users must typically contact their carrier to obtain new QR codes or undergo multiple authentication steps—adding time and friction to the experience.

The code notes that the feature will be supported only on devices running iOS 19 or higher, meaning older versions of iOS will not have access to this functionality. The update is expected to significantly ease the migration process between iOS and Android, marking a rare move from Apple toward cross-platform interoperability.

More details about “Transfer to Android” and other iOS 19 features are expected to be officially revealed at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), taking place from June 9 to 13.

As Apple pushes forward with its eSIM-only strategy, this new transfer tool could be a crucial step in removing friction for users who want the flexibility to switch platforms more freely.
