Apple is moving closer to its long-awaited foldable iPhone, with supply chain sources confirming that prototype testing for the device has already begun. According to reports, Apple initiated its P1 prototype stage in June 2025, which will be followed by P2 and P3 testing phases. Each stage typically lasts about two months, leading to a projected completion of prototype testing by the end of 2025.

Following successful prototype evaluations, the device will enter the Engineering Verification Test (EVT)Fall 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series. Assembly partners such as Foxconn and Pegatron are expected to verify the production process, with Foxconn reportedly preparing to start trial assembly in late September or early October 2025.
Design-wise, the iPhone Foldable is rumored to adopt a form factor similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold, featuring a 5.5-inch outer display (2,088 x 1,422 resolution) and a 7.8-inch inner display (2,713 x 1,920 resolution). The foldable will use a liquid metal hinge mechanism to achieve a “crease-free” folding experience and a titanium chassis for durability.
Expected Key Specifications:
- Dual-display: 5.5-inch external + 7.8-inch internal
- 48MP dual-camera system
- Integrated side button Touch ID (no Face ID)
- Apple’s in-house C2 baseband chip with full eSIM support, no SIM slot
- High-density battery technology inspired by iPhone 17 Air
- Liquid metal hinge and titanium frame
This foldable marks Apple’s first major step into the foldable smartphone market, competing directly with Samsung and other Android manufacturers. If successful, it will be one of Apple’s most significant product launches since the original 20th Anniversary iPhone concept was revealed for 2027.
The foldable iPhone is expected to officially launch in September 2026, creating a new era for Apple’s flagship lineup.
